The radiating antenna array on the basis of electric field standing waves in the ionospheric plasma
Last modified: 2014-03-05
Abstract
Radiation of electromagnetic waves by a volume of ionospheric plasma with periodic standing waves of the electric field has been investigated. The electric field standing waves are generated by intersection in the ionosphere of two beams of continuous coherent radiowaves from ground-based facilities separated on the Earth surface by hundreds of kilometers. Radiation patterns (RP) of a plasma radiator, as well as the electric field strengths have been calculated in their maxima for different wavelengths and widths of radiowave initial beams. The plasma radiator is proposed to be used for probing electron density in the ionosphere and over-the-horizon ionospheric radio communication.
